Meriden Branch at Coventry Motofest 2023

Motofest has been the annual motoring highlight in Coventry for several years. The Meriden Branch has attended most, if not all of them. After being cancelled or restricted by Covid in 2020 and 2021 last years event was cancelled at short notice due to the death of HM the Queen!

So this year it came back bigger and better.

A motorcycle ‘village’ was created on a green space between our railway station and the town centre. We set up camp for the 2 day event at 8.30am ish on Saturday morning when our trailer finally arrived after negotiating a convoluted route into the site. By the time the event opened with a ride in by a few hundred bikes we had 7 bikes and my Triumph Tina scooter on display in front of our gazebo. During the warm, dry day we had a constant stream of passers-by stopping to look and reminisce about the various older models. My Tina getting its fair share of interest.

On Sunday a few different bikes were on display again attracting much interest from the public.

Ron Thorley’s very nice 1946 Speed Twin was selected by the organisers to join a group of bikes for a few gentle laps of the inner ring road watched by crowds of spectators. His was thought to be the oldest bike at the event.

The consensus was that the event overall was a good one and our presence contributed well to the motorcycle element.
