Meriden Branch Report June 2019

Our first major event in June was the Coventry Motofest. An annual event when the city centre is taken over to displaying classic cars, bikes etc. Also vehicles being driven, often at speed, along closed sections of our inner ring road. Huge crowds always attend. We occupied a prominent position with a good selection of our members bikes plus a recently rebuilt Tina! (I’m rebuilding one)

Several members led by Keith ‘the navigator?’ Snell, ably? Assisted by chairman Steve, managed to get to Bidford on Avon for a “Wings and Wheels” event. I’m told it was a very good day out.

Meriden Branch assist the local Rotary Club in organising “The Meriden Megaride” This year 90+ riders from all over our area and beyond met in Alcester and rode via a scenic route – as always led by Neville – to a field at a Meriden pub. The bikes were displayed along with others not on the run. A covers band entertained the crowd, hot food was served and the pub was open. Former committee members Len and Julie spent most of the weekend there, with others, setting up, manning stalls and tidying up the site after the event. Lots of money is always raised for Rotary Club charities.

My apology to Annette Jelley. I wrongly wrote last month that she was the furthest travelled pillion when in fact she rode her own bike there.

We welcome new members Steven Webster, Andrew Mack and Ewen Moffat- Roberts. See you on Mondays at Meriden Social Club.
